Remote Interface

The remote interface is a specially designed interface cable to connect the faderstart outputs or external switches to the joystick input on your soundcard or mainboard. The remote interface can be used to trigger the players via the faderstart outputs on your mixing console or external pushbuttons or switches. The remote interface reacts to contact closures only.

Warning!

Never apply any voltage to the remote interface! If you want to connect the remote interface to a faderstart output of your mixer, be absolutely sure that this faderstart output does not supply any voltage! Even a very low voltage on the remote inputs is enough to damage your computer mainboard or soundcard. Before connecting the remote inputs, make sure the outputs you want to connect them to are dry contact closure type. Some mixing consoles use opto-couplers with their faderstart outputs. These opto-couplers commonly supply a small voltage to the faderstart output and can therefor NOT be used with the remote interface. For most of these mixing consoles using opto-couplers additional (relais) circuitry is available to generate a dry contact closure. The remote interface can however safely be connected to faderstart outputs based on microswitches. The remote inputs can be assigned to players in the software, so you do not have to connect all four remote inputs to control the four players.

The remote interface is connected to a joystick input. Therefor you need to make Windows 'think' that there's a joystick connected to your system.

First switch off your computer, then connect the 15-pin D-connector of the remote interface to the joystick input on your soundcard or mainboard.

Then switch on the computer. You now have to install a 2-axis, 4-button joystick.

Joystick

Open the Control Panel for Joysticks. Install a 2-axis, 4-button joystick as joystick 1 (ID1). The drivers for this type of standard joystick are already present in your system. Windows might ask you to calibrate the joystick. Since we are actually installing the remote interface and not a joystick, you don't have to calibrate.

Once you installed this type of joystick on your system, you are ready to use the remote interface with JingleBox. Start JingleBox and open the remote window by clicking on the remote icon on the toolbar:

Tool

The status line in the remote window shows the current status of the remote interface. If you correctly installed the remote interface, the status line should look like this:

Status

The remote status line can display the following messages:

  • remote active - The remote interface was installed correctly and is connected to the system. This is the normal situation in which you can use the remote interface.
  • remote unplugged - You installed the remote interface correctly, but the remote interface doesn't react. Make sure the remote interface is plugged into the joystick input on your soundcard or mainboard. If you have several soundcards in your system, try another joystick input.
  • remote not installed - You did not install a joystick on your system. Open the Control Panel for Joysticks and install a 2-axis, 4-button joystick.
  • In the remote window you see four remote indicators. If one ore more of these remote indicators are grey, you installed the wrong joystick type. Make sure you install a standard 2-axis, 4-button joystick.
