(CBS Local) — If you’re kids are stuck at home and burned out on movies and video games, here’s another option if they’ve still got a case of cabin fever.
As most schools remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Audible, the audiobook service owned by Amazon, is offering free streams on selected children’s stories.
As parents and kids are trying to fill their days at home during COVID-19 shutdowns, Audible is helping make the search for something to do a little easier. They’ve recently launched Audible Stories, which is a library of content featuring hundreds of audiobooks that anyone around the world can enjoy for free. 19 hours ago During the initial lockdown of in March 2020, which saw schools close for the first time, audiobooks site Audible announced it would share hundreds of kids’ books for free. Starting Saturday, audiobook service Audible - which is owned by Amazon - is offering free streams on a select number of children's stories across six languages to keep kids 'dreaming, learning. Audible offers a screen-free experience that allows your kids to fully immerse themselves in a story without staring at the glowing lights of their phone or tablet. In addition to English, listeners can enjoy selections in other languages including French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Japanese.
“For as long as schools are closed, we’re open,” Audible said on its website. “Kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories.”

Audible is offering books in six different languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Italian.

Stories are divided into several categories, including Harry Potter, Littlest Listeners, Elementary, Tween, Teen, Literary Classics and Folk & Fairy Tales for All.
The free stories can be streamed on desktops, laptops, phones or tablets, Audible said.
Examples of free books include “Winnie the Pooh,” “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” “Aladdin,” “Jane Eyre” and “The Call of the Wild.”
