Then he enlisted the expertise of guitar guru John Carruthers (Carruthers Guitars, Fender Custom Shop, Yamaha, G&L), who re-fretted the guitar’s neck, installed a midboost feature, converted the neck joint to a 4-bolt array, and added copper foil and shielding paint to minimize hum from the pickups and controls.
- The Korean Fender Squiers were produced from 1988, but there were no serial numbers until mid-1993 documented. Other low-budget countries followed, like China, Indonesia and India. The serial number registration of these countries also leaves sometimes to be desired.

I just bought a used Squier Bullet Series Stratocaster, and I'm trying to purchase a replacement whammy bar and I am very confused. After searching on Ebay for a whammy bar, I see that there are several types amd I need to know the serial number of my guitar. The only number I can find on my guitar is on the chrome plate that attaches the neck to the body, and the number there is NC437912. And it says made in China. My understanding is that NC means made in China, and the first two number after the NC indicates the year it was made. I really doubt my Squier was made in 1947! I am very confused and don't know what type of whammy bar to purchase for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Good morning, Ron.
Your Squier, by that serial number, was made in the Yako factory in Taiwan in 1994.
I cannot advise you on which size whammy bar to purchase.
I do know from personal experience that there are different sized (diameter) shafts and threads, and they vary from guitar to guitar.

By your IP address, you live near Tucson.
My best advice is the drive to the nearby Guitar Center with your Squier in hand, and go to the accessories wall there, right near the strings and guitar straps.
(Guitar Center WILL let you bring your guitar in with you, as it is common practice when guys are shopping for accessories, straps, and even amplifiers.)
There you will find a great variety of whammy bars, and I am sure they will have one that will fit.
One other thing;
Ebooks gujarati library. A regular contributor here, Stratmanshow, is an expert on Squier guitars.
He may be able to offer more elucidation and advice.

Thanks for the good advice. That is what I'll do then to assure that I get the right whammy bar for my guitar. Buying one on line would be risky.
Again, thanks for the good advice and the nice response,
By the way, I LOVE Tucson.
I have some good friends who have lived there for over 20 years, and I visit whenever I can!
