Follow the instructions below to change the Start Up and Shut Down sounds of your PC (note that you can always revert back to the default Microsoft Sounds as required):

1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel

2. Double-click on 'Sounds and Multimedia' (for WinMe) or 'Sounds' (for Win95/98). Note that this icon name differs for different Windows versions.

3. Under the 'Sounds' tab, do the following ..

(a) to change the Start Up sound

• Click on the 'Browse' button and select the sound you want to use to replace the default sound. Click 'OK' button. You can click on the 'Play' button to make sure that this is the audio file you want.

(b) to change the Shut Down sound

• Find and select 'Exit Windows' with a speaker icon next to it

• Click on the 'Browse' button and select the sound you want to use to replace the default sound. Click 'OK' button. You can click on the 'Play' button to make sure that this is the audio file you want.

• The chosen sound is now your Shut Down sound

4. Click on 'Apply' button and then 'OK' to confirm the changes made.
